Looking for a new online game with deep lore? Look no further than The Elder Scrolls Online! Adventure through Tamriel just like in Skyrim, but with an expanded and revamped world to explore.

Progressing through the game quickly reveals that having a good stockpile of gold is essential. One of the best ways to earn gold early on is by completing daily writs. Head to Vivec City in Vvardenfell to get started. Look for the writs board near the bank and follow the quest markers to gather materials. Also, speak with the Fighters Guild and Mages Guild to complete the tutorial. Later, head to Summerset to unlock jewelry writs, which are the most lucrative. The more writs completed, the wealthier one becomes!

Once enough gold is earned, head to a bag upgrade station. Each upgrade will cost progressively more, but it’s a great investment. Keep in mind that mount speed, research stations, and bag space don’t carry over when creating new characters. One way to gain extra bag space after maxing it out is to purchase one of the few pets from the Crown Store that increases inventory capacity. Leave a character near Vivec City Wayshrine next to the mount upgrade station to remember to upgrade each login, then proceed to writs.

Many players stress finding the “best” ways to level up quickly. But that may lead to missing the story and other features. Instead, focus on enjoying the game at a comfortable pace. Start with the main storyline, then explore enjoyable zones. Complete zone storylines, tackle world bosses, dive into delves, and more. This approach provides a more fulfilling experience with less chance of burnout. For those preferring to grind XP, travel to Alik’r Desert and spam the three dolmens, run multiple dungeons, hire players in Craglorn with gold to level up, do writs, and use XP scrolls.

Some skills require certain experience levels to unlock. Doing a daily random dungeon quest for the Undaunted, plus quests from the Fighters Guild and Mages Guild, will naturally level up these skills without feeling like a grind. The Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild are both great storylines and enjoyable gameplay, but they are not vital to new players.

While adventuring, antiquity leads may appear. These lead to sellable treasure, armor parts, furnishings, mythic items, and more. Starting the Psijic quests early on helps level up the ability to scry and discover antiquities, which can be very rewarding.

The Elder Scrolls Online offers a huge variety of activities, making it perfect for players of all types. If one activity becomes less appealing, there’s always something else to try: achievement hunting, fishing, farming, house decorating, styling outfits, PvP, exploring Tamriel, playing the Tales of Tribute card game, theory crafting, and participating in 12-man trials—there’s never a dull moment.

Joining a guild is highly recommended to advance in adventures, build friendships, and participate in group events. Players can belong to up to five guilds at once and may leave anytime. Most guilds are free to join, although some may charge a gold fee or have a participation requirement. Guilds provide a sense of community and an opportunity for veteran players to mentor newer ones. Guildmates often offer training runs, assistance with training gear, and help farming sets after reaching level 50. Before level 50, worrying too much about gear sets isn’t necessary, but after reaching that milestone, Champion Points (CP) start providing buffs for all types of content.

Good luck on adventures across Tamriel—may one never take an arrow to the knee.
