I flopped back and forth on whether or not I wanted to spend money on newborn photos or if I wanted to attempt them myself when I had my first baby. Luckily, I decided I am not a newborn photographer, and I would hire someone. After going past my due date, being induced, and having an emergency c-section, there was absolutely no way I could have taken my own newborn photos.

The second time around, I knew without a doubt I needed to work with a professional. I found who I considered to be the best newborn photographer in my area, Tara Lindley. She was a dream to work with. Her posing and newborn expertise coupled with her endless supply of wraps, furs, backdrops, and headbands were my favorite studio experience to date.

A few years ago I did our extended family portraits. They were okay, they were far from flawless though. And not exactly something I would be proud to print for my walls. Last year we hired a professional studio in Utah to do them, and they turned out wonderful!

It takes a huge amount of stress of you, when you allow someone else to capture your important memories. Having your hair and makeup done, having your families outfits on and looking good, and getting everyone to the location on time is a big enough chore to begin with. When you add in you actually being the photographer, it can be a recipe for chaos.

Since 2010 I have really enjoyed working with different professional photographers. Here is a rough list of all the photographers I have worked with over the last seven years for my own portraits.
Isn’t that an amazing list full of variety? To be honest, I enjoy working with different photographers. It gives more variety to my portraits. Why should others want to book us, if we aren’t willing to use other professionals for our own families? Practice what you preach, and find a photographer near you. Once in a while it’s good practice to see what it’s like to be a client.
